You cannot check out 162.

162 is a bogey number. There is no combination of three darts that adds up to 162 and ends on a double, so it cannot be finished from the throw however well you throw it.

Why 162 cannot be done

A finish has to end on a double, and you only have three darts. The most you can score with the first two is 120, treble 20 twice, which would leave 42 for the last dart, and 42 is not a double. Every other pair of darts leaves something that is not a double either. That is the whole reason a bogey number exists.

The seven bogey numbers

There are only seven scores between 2 and 170 you cannot finish from:

159162163165166168169

169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159. Anything else up to 170 has a finish, and the checkout chart has all of them.

What to do when you are left on 162

Score, and leave yourself something you can finish. Treble 20 takes 162 down to 102, which is a finish. Getting the leave right is what separates a player who checks out from one who does not.
